Xi wraps up historic state visit; more meetings planned

(The Center Square) – After a historic state visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife departed Washington, D.C., Friday afternoon, with President Donald Trump and the Chinese leader confirming two more meetings this year.

On Truth Social, Trump confirmed he will be traveling to China in November for the second time this year. Then, the two leaders will meet again in Miami in December for the G20 Summit.

Trump called the state visit with Xi, “was one of friendship, strength,  and success for both China and the U.S.A.,” the president posted on Truth Social.

Xi’s visit wrapped up with tea between the two couples in the Red Room at the White House, followed by a visit to the National Archives, where the leaders viewed items such as the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

During Xi’s visit, he was treated to pomp and circumstance, including a military review, flyovers, and a state dinner with some of the world’s top tech and business leaders.

Bilateral meetings were Thursday at the White House, but neither was open to reporters.

On Friday afternoon, while touring the National Archives, Trump was asked if he and Xi had discussed the ongoing conflict in Iran, which the president acknowledged they had, but did not elaborate on the discussions.

The state visit was met with protests across Washington, D.C., with demonstrators protesting the Chinese government, at times clashing with pro-Chinese government protesters.
