In honor of the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, contemporary Christian a cappella group kickVocal has released an arrangement of A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (lyrics and music by Martin Luther | translation by Frederic H. Hedge | arrangement by Scott Dawson – https://dawsoncreativity.com ).
October 31, 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. Most people associate the beginning of the Protestant Reformation with the nailing of Martin Luther’s 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle church. “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” is the most well-known of the 36 hymns written by Luther. The words, translated from German into English, are based on Psalm 46, and they celebrate God’s sovereign reign over all earthly and spiritual forces. Jesus Christ the Son of God is portrayed in the hymn as a mighty warrior who will emerge triumphant through his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead.
