Housefires - Keep My Eyes Up

Life is full of commitments, requirements and obligations. With such a busy and hectic world, it’s easy to get distracted and shift focus on temporary, temporal things that don’t really matter. One song reminds us of where that attention and focus should be and stay.

“Keep My Eyes Up” from the Housefires is a beautiful song about our need to shift our focus to Christ. One of the song’s verses makes mention of our tendency to become distracted by what is around us. Even though this does happen, the songwriter is determined to stay focused on Jesus.

“I look to You, not the left, or the right
You are my vision, you are the prize
I’m grounded in love; my faith is taking flight”

Another verse, near the conclusion of the song, points out that if we only focus our attention and remain committed to Jesus, we have no reason to fear anything.

The song also indicates that when everything in our world is shaking and falling apart, Heaven will be a place where Christ is loved, adored and worshiped.

However, the songwriter saves the song’s most powerful and impactful words for the very last. The lyrics state that there have been both truth and lies told. But instead of falling away and going with the falsehoods, Christ is the prize if we only keep our eyes focused on Him.

The video, which accompanies the song and its uplifting and positive message, features the musicians performing in the center of a room. Other people surround the musicians as they sing along to the song.

“Keep My Eyes Up” is a lovely song with a powerful message reminding us to stay focused on what matters in this life and the next: Jesus.

Psalms 34:5 “Let your eyes be turned to him and you will have light, and your faces will not be shamed.”

Jeremy Camp - Anxious Heart

Listen to “Anxious Heart” by Jeremy Camp.

Pressure in the classroom, demands at the job site and 24-hour news channels that constantly tell us the world is ending. Those are enough to give even the calmest and most relaxed person a ton of anxiety. The world is full of stress-inducing things, but there is One who has a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Jeremy Camp’s song “Anxious Heart” is about someone who is currently undergoing a period of great stress, anxiousness and uncertainty. The song’s first verse accurately describes an individual in a panic state. Jeremy sings about a racing heart, hands that are trembling, the loss of breath and a mind spinning out of control.

Luckily, we don't have to live this way! We can turn to the One who is always faithful and a shelter amidst the storm.

The song’s chorus reminds us of what God can and does do during our time of need!

“You hold me together when I’m torn apart
And when my thoughts have run away too far
You’re the calm for my anxious heart”

The rest of the song mentions that ultimately God is in control of the situation, if we allow Him to be. Regardless of what happens in our lives or in the world around us, He is still working.

Like the lyrics, the song’s video accurately depicts someone who needs God’s calm and peace. The young man in the video is dealing with a situation causing great anxiety. But during his stress-inciting episode, he periodically circles a church until he finally enters it, sits in a pew and opens a Bible.

What a visually powerful video for a song about God’s ability to give us unbelievable peace and calm our anxious hearts! The song's message is desperately needed in our world today.

Philippians 4:6 “In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Tasha Cobbs Leonard - Under My Feet (Praise Break)

Listen to Tasha Cobbs Leonard sing “Under My Feet (Praise Break).”

The Bible is clear that we are to bring our requests before God. However, Christians should also praise and thank God for what He has done in their lives. Hebrews 13:15 tells Christians to “offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually.” One song is an excellent reminder to praise God for the work he has done and is doing.

Tasha Cobbs Leonard's song “Under My Feet (Praise Break)” is about the need to praise the Lord. Early in the song, Tasha states that when she thinks about the “goodness of Jesus and all He’s done for me,” it causes her soul to cry out with shouts of hallelujah!

Most of the song is about not allowing the heaviness, ugliness, troubles and worries to weigh you down. Tasha, and the rest of the musicians on stage, instead encourage people to stand up, praise God and insist that all of that is “under my feet.”

Christians, in their time of need, can call upon the Lord and he will answer. He is faithful!

The video to the song is an example of pure and unbridled joy for God and all his work in the lives of His people. Immediately after the song begins, joy and happiness fills the room. Those people on stage and nearly everyone in the audience dance around and shout for joy throughout the song.

All have a good time praising and thanking the Lord for his great work!

Tasha and the rest of the other musicians sound fantastic as they sing praise.

Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope make you full of joy and peace through faith, so that all hope may be yours in the power of the Holy Spirit.”
